Hi, my name is Armahn. I am the operator of June 4th Artisan Soaps, a black-owned business I run with my family!
This is our story.
I have always preferred natural products like handcrafted soap over those filled with artificial and chemical-based ingredients. I guess, the inclination is in my genes or in my blood. The women in my family used natural body products, tonics, and ointments infused with herbs.
I was 4 or 5 years old but, I can still remember the day I was hanging out in the kitchen with my great-grandma, Anna Lee. She was boiling something so medicinal and strong that it made my eyes water. My grandma Claudia used to medicate me and my siblings with honey, oils, garlic, and lemon each and every time we looked like we were thinking about coming down with a cold.
On June 4th of the year I was born, my mother went to what would be our last pre-natal appointment. Her doctor advised her to go home and get off her feet. She told him that she did not have time to sit with her feet up because she had two preschoolers at home, a baby three days past due, 2 loads of laundry waiting, floors that needed mopping, and a double batch of handmade soap to make for our household. My mother claimed that store-bought soaps and detergents “didn’t smell right” and triggered her allergies. To make a long story short, she decided to ignore her doctor’s advice and went into nesting mode as soon as she made it back home.
Five hours later, my mother’s exertions motivated me to "show up and show out."
So, I don't know if you would call it karma or kismet but I sincerely believe that I was destined to become the owner and operator of June 4th Artisan Soaps ever since the day I was born.
